The Explorer, the Filmmaker and the Banker tells the story of James Madison Barker (1886–1974), an American engineer, banker, and executive whose professional life took him from directing the Bank of Boston in Buenos Aires to the board of Sears, Roebuck and the corridors of Cold War diplomacy. Built around Barker’s own 16mm silent footage — crossing the Andes on horseback, navigating the Pacific coast, filming the Argentine landscape and the Panama Canal — this documentary reconstructs a life lived at the intersection of American politics and twentieth-century history.

The Explorer, the Filmmaker and the Banker narra la historia de James Madison Barker (1886–1974), ingeniero, banquero y ejecutivo estadounidense cuya vida profesional lo llevó desde la dirección del Banco de Boston en Buenos Aires hasta el directorio de Sears, Roebuck y los pasillos de la diplomacia de la Guerra Fría. Construido en torno al metraje en 16mm que el propio Barker filmó — cruzando los Andes a caballo, navegando la costa del Pacífico, registrando el paisaje argentino y el Canal de Panamá — este documental reconstruye una vida transcurrida en la intersección de la política norteamericana y la historia del siglo XX.
